DAN LILKER Musical Biography In The Works

January 3, 2009

Chicago-based journalist Dave Hofer is in the process of writing a "musical biography" of veteran metal bassist Dan Lilker (ANTHRAX, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, BRUTAL TRUTH).

Commented Lilker: "It's now been a quarter-century that I have played music that in the 'professional' arena. In fact, as of this writing (New Year's Eve '08),it's going to be precisely that long since I was asked to leave ANTHRAX... but more on that in the actual book.

"Over that period, I've experienced a lot in several different bands, and there's been many a time when I was hanging out with people either backstage somewhere, or maybe at a bar or a party, when I ended up entertaining those assembled with an interesting story from an earlier time in my experiences. More often than not, someone would say, 'You should write a book man, you've seen it all!' to which I'd reply, 'It would take forever to organize something like that!'

"But back in February '07, when BRUTAL TRUTH did a tour of the U.K., our vocalist Kevin [Sharp] suggested bringing along a friend of his to sell our merch. His name was Dave Hofer, and he is a journalist from Chicago, where Kevin lived at the time. Dave wanted to keep a daily journal throughout the tour that ended up being a tour diary, which was published later in Metal Maniacs.

"So the next time he came on tour with BRUTAL TRUTH in February '08 I was telling funny stories from the past to make a long van ride shorter, Dave actually said, 'You should write a book, and I'll help you!' so Dave offered to conduct a series of interviews with me that would cover the entire span of my involvement in the metal scene; bands I've formed, bands I've played with, bands I've produced/recorded, tours...etc. So we decided to go for it!

"In September '08, Dave flew out from Chicago up here to Rochester, New York over a long weekend and did most of the interviews, which he then diligently transcribed and sent me for accuracy checks. We're going to do one more round of interviews soon to get all the new questions that popped up in his brain since then.

"At this time we do not have a publisher to release it but hopefully that situation will be rectified therefore with nothing definite at the moment any serious offers to release this book should be sent here for evaluation: [email protected] or www.myspace.com/danlilkerbook."
